The Scattered Authors’ Society is a dynamic and inspiring community for published authors. Membership opens the door to a host of valuable benefits, from professional connections to opportunities for growth, support, and collaboration. Other benefits include:
Private Facebook group
The Scattered Authors’ Society was first established before emails and social media existed. It was intended as a network giving the opportunity for children’s authors to connect, chat and offer support to each other. Social media has come a long way since then.
The Scattered Authors’ Society private Facebook group is now the hub of the group. It’s a place for members to connect, seek advice and share good news amongst a cohort of other authors.

Online sessions
Zoom has enabled our members to get together whenever they want to. There are Zoom socials and ‘Spotlight On’ sessions to informally share expertise and experience. The Scattered Authors’ Society professional Zoom account can be borrowed by any member for running an online critique group.
********
Blogs
The opportunity to join one of the group blogs with a monthly slot.

Writers’ Retreat
There is an annual retreat at Folly Farm in January. Set in a nature reserve, Folly Farm is a fabulous setting for delegates to get away from it all and hang out with other writers. In order to keep the costs low, a programme of workshops or fun activities led by fellow delegates is put together by a volunteer.

Social get-togethers
Throughout the year, lunches and get-togethers are organised by members. Previously, there was a summer annual retreat and a weekend conference. These were discontinued due to logistical issues with the venues, rather than a lack of interest from members. There is always scope for a new retreat in the calendar.
Any member is very welcome to organise an event, big or small. You can use the Scattered Authors’ Society map to see which members are near you. Choose what you want to do, advertise it on the Facebook page and enjoy.
And finally…
While children’s literature is at the centre of the Scattered Authors’ Society, many of our members have branched out into writing fiction and non-fiction for adults as well as play scripts and poetry for all ages.
Come and join us.
